Porcelain Fillings

Westport, Fairfield, Darien and New Canaan, Connecticut

When you have a cavity, it needs to be removed, to prevent tooth loss. However, when the cavity is removed, there is space inside your tooth which must be filled. A “filling” is the substance placed inside your tooth. There are two types of fillings – porcelain and amalgam.

Amalgam fillings (also sometimes called silver fillings) contain mercury, which is a toxic chemical, so silver fillings are rarely used nowadays. Dr. Worthington recommends porcelain fillings, both for new cavities and as a replacement for any existing silver fillings.

Aside from the health benefits, porcelain fillings are also tooth-colored, so they’re barely visible. If you have silver fillings, please contact us today. In most cases, silver fillings are not worth the health risks.

For over 24 years, Dr. Worthington has improved the health and the smiles of people throughout the Westport, Bridgeport, Greenwich and Fairfield, Connecticut, area.
